We believe in transparency and want to ensure you have a seamless and enjoyable experience from booking to receiving your final images. That’s why we’re taking a moment to demystify some of the key points you’ll find in our terms and conditions. Think of this as your friendly guide to understanding the nuts and bolts so you can focus on what truly matters: looking your best and creating lasting memories.

No one loves wading through legal jargon, but understanding these points upfront helps set clear expectations and ensures a happy partnership. Let’s break down some of the essential aspects you should know when booking your photoshoot with Photographistas:

1. Your Photos, Your Memories (Mostly!) – Understanding Usage Rights & Copyright:

It’s crucial to understand who owns the photos and how you can use them. At Photographistas, we, as the creators, generally retain the copyright to all photographs we take. Think of it like a painter owning their artwork, even after selling it.

However, this doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy and share your beautiful photographs! When you book a session with us, you are granted a license for personal use of the images. This means you’re free to:

  • Share your photos online: Post them on social media (Facebook, Instagram, etc.), and share them with family and friends via email or messaging apps.
  • Print them for personal display: Create prints for your home, albums, or gifts for loved ones.
  • Use them for commercial purposes: This includes using the photos to promote your business, products, or services in advertising campaigns, or for any activity where you’re making a profit.

What you typically can’t do without express written permission from Photographistas:

  • Resell or redistribute the photos: You can’t sell the digital files or prints to others for their use.
  • Edit or alter the photos: Generally, modifications beyond minor cropping are not allowed, as it can compromise our artistic style and brand.

2. Smile for the Camera (and Sign Here… Sometimes!) – The Implied and Explicit Model Release:

When you book a photoshoot with Photographistas, you’re essentially agreeing to be photographed. This is often referred to as an implied model release for personal use. By participating in the photoshoot, you are giving us permission to :

  • Photograph you and use those images for purposes directly related to your photoshoot (like delivering the final images to you!).
  • Use your images for our portfolio, promotional materials, or on our website: We love to showcase our best work and may want to feature images from your session in our online galleries or marketing materials. 

However, there are times when a formal, explicit model release is necessary. This is usually when:

  • For specific types of photography: Certain genres, like street photography or some editorial work, may have different considerations regarding model releases. We’ll always clarify if a release is needed in such cases.
  • In these cases, we will always ask for your explicit written consent through a model release form, clearly outlining how the images will be used. You always have the right to say no, and it will never affect the quality of service you receive.

Rest assured, your privacy is important to us. We will always be transparent about how we intend to use your photos beyond what is expressed above and will seek explicit consent when required.

3. Life Happens: Understanding Our Refund Policy:

We understand that plans can change. While we strive to be flexible, we also need to have a clear refund policy to protect our business and time.

Here’s a general overview of our refund policy (any other specific details will be outlined in your booking agreement):

  • Booking Deposits: Typically, booking deposits are non-refundable. This is because your deposit secures your photoshoot date and time and prevents us from booking other clients for that slot. It also covers some initial preparatory work we undertake.
  • Cancellations by You:
    • Significant Notice (Atleast 7 days before the shoot): While the deposit might be non-refundable, we are often happy to reschedule your photoshoot to a mutually convenient date, subject to availability.
    • Short Notice Cancellations (within 7 days of the shoot): Due to the short notice and potential loss of revenue, cancellations closer to the photoshoot date may result in forfeiture of the full session fee, or only a partial refund at our discretion.
  • Cancellations by Photographistas: In the rare event that Photographistas needs to cancel your photoshoot (due to unforeseen circumstances like photographer illness or equipment malfunction), you will be offered a full refund of any payments made, or the option to reschedule at no extra cost, whichever you prefer.

Open Communication is Key: If you need to reschedule or have any concerns, please communicate with us as early as possible. We are always happy to discuss your situation and find a fair solution.

4. Beyond the Big Three: Other Important Considerations:

Our full terms and conditions page will cover other important details, such as:

  • Payment Schedules: When and how payments are due.
  • Rescheduling and Punctuality: Our policies on rescheduling and what happens if you are late for your photoshoot.
  • Image Delivery and Archival: How and when you will receive your final images, and our policies on image storage and backups.
  • Liability: Our limitations of liability for unforeseen circumstances during the photoshoot.
  • Governing Law: As we are based in Bangalore, India, our agreements are typically governed by Indian law.

Excelling in her studies, Sujatha earned a Master’s degree in Commerce and launched her career as a financial analyst with a multinational corporation.

As she climbed the ranks within her organization, Sujatha garnered respect and admiration from peers, all while earning a respectable salary. Yet, amidst her professional triumphs, she found more fulfillment in her role as a homemaker and mother to a delightful daughter. Balancing the challenges of work with family responsibilities proved to be demanding, prompting her to reflect on her own aspirations beyond the corporate realm.

 Ultimately, Sujatha made the courageous choice to embark on a new career in photography, which took many of her colleagues and friends by surprise.

In 2025 Sujatha founded Photographistas, a photography firm led by women, dedicated to capturing moments that narrate powerful stories. Drawing on her business acumen from the finance world, she crafted a client-centered model that encapsulated both artistic expression and high-quality photography.

Beyond her role as a founder, Sujatha is also launching an initiative designed to help small and medium-sized enterprises navigate the intricacies of starting their businesses. Her vision goes beyond mere memory-making; she aspires to motivate others to follow their passions and break free from societal constraints.

Sujatha’s narrative exemplifies the spirit of reinvention and the pursuit of one’s dreams.
